The director of social impact of beverage manufacturer Ambev, Carlos Pignatari, and manager Thayná Nascimento were in Belém this week to participate in the Inter-American Forum on Strategic Philanthropy. Both visited the Grupo Liberal headquarters on Friday morning (28).

They also took the opportunity to check up close the results of the projects established by Ambev in the capital of Pará. The company has already installed five public drinking fountains in the Águas Lindas neighborhood and distributed 4,800 clay filters both in the neighborhood and on Ilha das Onças, on the other side of Guajará Bay. The initiative seeks to expand access to drinking water in the region.

"The AMA project was born with the goal of guaranteeing quality water in the semi-arid region, but we saw that other locations also need this support. In 2022, we looked at Pará and noticed how complex this water issue is here, besides the fact that the state has one of the lowest basic sanitation indexes in Brazil. The donations of clay filters to the population are a simple, but very effective solution for those who have difficulty in consuming water safely", says Nascimento.

According to Pignatari, more and more companies that seek to generate social impact are looking at Belem as a microcosm of the Amazon's socio-biodiversity, which makes the city a reference in the search for more ideas and projects.

"It is super important to understand the local reality with support from the people of the region and seek partnership possibilities. We have to understand more and more the place of the Amazonians, the black people, the people from the outskirts, the indigenous people. These are groups that are not always seen. The knowledge is here in the region and this is still a problem in the southeast of Brazil in terms of being able to understand things and visualize the reality of the Amazon. We need to bring together more people from here to design more actions, more projects", he points out.
